Observation tower

Local name: Wieża widokowa

The Red Tower is located in the village of Łaz, in the suburbs of Żar, in the Lubuskie Province. It is located in the Green Forest surrounding the city of Żary, on the slope of Borsucza Góra. From its summit you can see the panorama of the Żarów Hills, the Lower Silesian Forests and the Śląsko-Łużycki borderland, and in good weather also the Karkonosze and Izerskie Mountains.

The Red Tower is also called the Promnitz Tower, Hunting Tower or Brick Tower, and in the past it was called Blockhaus and Aussichturm. It was built in 1864 on the initiative of the Society for Beautifying the City of Żary. It was built on a square plan with a side of 4.70 and reaches a height of 15 m. In 2016, the tower underwent a general renovation and was again made available to the public.

You can reach the Red Tower by following the Three Towers Trail, which leads from Żary to Żagań. On the route, in addition to the Red Tower, there are also another stone tower, called the Bismarck Tower and a steel fire tower.
