University church of the Blessed Name of Jesus

Local name: Kościół uniwersytecki Najświętszego Imienia Jezus

One of the richest Baroque churches in Lower Silesia impresses with the group of illusionist frescos decorating walls and ceilings.

Worthy of attention are also the monumental altar, numerous sculptures, the replica of famous Vatican Pietà by Michelangelo, and the monumental matroneum with 14 sacral paintings. The single-nave church consists of 12 chapels situated in two side rows. The sacristy is decorated with Renaissance portals which are the remains of the former imperial palace. The ruins of the palace were foundations of the church.

University Church of the Blessed Name of Jesus was built at the end of the 17th century but most chapel altars come from the years between 1879 and 1893 because of the then rebuilt of the chapels. Despite many unfortunate circumstances throughout the years, the interior maintained good condition and that's why tourists visit it as often as the neighboring university.
