Silesian Piast Mausoleum

Local name: Mauzoleum Piastów Śląskich

The historical Silesian Piast Mausoleum is located in the church of Saint Clare of Assisi, one of the churches of the monastery of Ursulines. The tombstone of Henry VI with a depiction of the prince with full armor on is situated in the center of the mausoleum. The passage to the neighboring church is connected by the portal over which the urn with the heart of Princess Karolina of Legnica-Brieg - the last one of the Piast dynasty - is placed. The mausoleum consists of tombstones of Henry III the White, Henry V the Fat, and dozen daughters of princes.

In the past, the church had more tombstones but part of them was destroyed during the war or used as a building material. At the beginning of its existence, the church of Saint Clare of Assisi was a main church of the monastery and had attached chapel. After the collapse of the main nave, it was changed into mausoleum while the chapel took over a role of the monastery's church - nowadays, the church of Saint Hedwig.
