Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist was built at the turn of the 14th century and consists of 20 chapels which are mostly designed in Gothic style. Especially worthy of attention are the four Baroque chapels - two situated to the east of the gallery and another two near the side naves.
The largest and most recognizable are the Chapel of Saint Elizabeth and the Chapel of Elector also known as the Chapel of Body of Christ. The first of them has its own sacristy and separate presbytery. The interior consists of the statue of Saint Elizabeth and frescos depicting scenes from her life which decorate the walls. The name of the second chapel is related to its founder bishop Franz Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg - the Elector of Reich. The other two are the Chapel of the Resurrection also known as the Chapel of Dead, and the small Chapel of Savior which is used today as a chapel of the sacrament. It's covered with the original dome with a roof lantern.Less
