Wielka Siklawa

Local name: Wielka Siklawa

Wielka Siklawa is the biggest waterfall in Poland. It's located in the High Tatras on the Roztoka stream. It's almost 70m high. Siklawa has two spurts (three in the higher part of the waterfall), falling parallel to each other at a 35-degree angle. The waterfall falls from Stawiarska Wall which separates the Roztoka Valley from the Valley of Five Lakes. It can be seen from the green track located nearby which leads from Mickiewicz Waterfalls to Big Pond.

The waterfall was previously named Siklawa Water. Since the beginning of the 19th century, it was considered one of the biggest tourists attractions in the Tatra Mountains. Its description can be found in the poems of then poets such as Seweryn Goszczyński.

A rainbow can be spotted at the base of the waterfall on sunny days after heavy rains.

Since the 19th century, the waterfall was a popular destination for trips and an inspiration for artists. Writer and poet Seweryn Goszczyński wrote: "Hundred steps from us, fell the waters of Siklawa (...) Flying water, swirling, boiling, broken, seems like a froth and diamonds..."
