"Cisy Staropolskie" Nature Reserve
Local name: Rezerwat przyrody "Cisy Staropolskie"
Cisy Staropolskie Nature Reserve is the most numerous cluster of yews in Europe. It is also one of the most charming places in the Tuchola Forest, combining beauty and wildness of nature with the cultural heritage of works by Leon Wyczółkowski. The jewel of the reserve is yew "Chrobry" which has about 600 years.
The exploration takes place without a guide. Thanks to this it's possible to make stops at 180-years-old trees and get a magical feel of this place. The dedication of the reserve to the known Polish artist is related to his frequent visits here to make sketches of his works. He called this place "Saint Grove". Working from dawn to dusk in this picturesque land, Wyczółkowski also immortalized aged "Chrobry". The result of his visits were about a hundred works largely made with chalk and ink, known today as portraits of yews which, in the past, were presented on national and foreign exhibitions.Less
