Museum of the Chełmno Land
Local name: Muzeum Ziemi Chełmińskiej
Located in the historic Chełm city hall, the facility collects exhibits related to the history of the city and its surroundings. The permanent exhibitions in five rooms present the history of Chełmno, and in one figure the famous Polish surgeon Dr. Ludwik Rydygier. You can also see an exhibition of paintings by Chełmno painter Antoni Piotrowicz. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions.
The Renaissance building of the town hall from the 16th century is also attractive, after renovation, it serves only museum purposes. The facility has been around for about 65 years, although the collection of artifacts related to the Chełmno region has been collected before. In 1959, Jerzy Kałdowski became her mentor.
The rank of the museum was given to the institution only in 1964, changing its headquarters over the years, starting from the town hall, through the Powder Tower, until December 28, 1983, when during the 750th anniversary celebrations of granting Chełmno the location privilege the Museum of the Chełmno Land was officially erected.
