Tenement under the Star owes its name to the golden star placed at the very top of the building. In the interiors of the historic building you can see occasional exhibitions organized by the Department of Fine Arts of the Toruń Regional Museum. The entrance is defended by a door decorated with bas-reliefs and framed with a stone portal, behind which there is a spacious hall with a twisted staircase decorated with figures of Minerva and a lion. Wooden ceilings are decorated with polychromies. On the first floor there is an elegant Empire style lounge decorated around 1800.
The building has a long history, and its walls are a composition of fragments of walls and foundations from various periods, from the Middle Ages to the 17th century, in which the present beautiful facade was created. The tenement in the past belonged to Toruń patricians, being a testimony to their wealth and a passion for beautiful architecture. It is widely recognized as the most beautiful in Toruń. The oldest parts of the tenement are its walls dating back to the Middle Ages, in the past bordering the former home of the Copernicus family. The baroque ornament was built in the 17th century.Less
