Old Town Hall
The tower of the Old Town Hall, dated back to 1274, is the oldest tower of this type in eastern and central Europe. From a height of 40 meters there is a wide panorama of the medieval urban complex, the Vistula River and the surrounding housing estates. The entrance to the observation deck leads through the southern wing of the town hall through narrow and winding stairs. At the height of the first floor, visitors can get acquainted with the exhibition on the history of the tower.
The building was raised to its current height in 1385. The monument suffered a lot during the siege of Sweden in 1703. During the artillery fire the pointy helmet, which was the highest part of the tower, was burned and this historic roof has not been restored. The Old Town Hall in Toruń is a monument of the "0" class and has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.Less
