The gothic granary was built of red bricks and features a characteristic façade with a stepped top, divided by slender ogival blends. The interior of the building is not suitable for sightseeing.
The building was erected on the present Piekary Street 4 in the 14th century, and preserved to this day in good condition, has been renovated and is an important point of sightseeing on the map of Toruń. The granary is a perfect representative of the times in which Toruń was a city with intensively developing trade, and storage buildings constituted a significant part of the then architecture. The construction of the building combined the functions of grain storage with residential ones, as evidenced by the combination of a large hall, warehouse attic and a residential house located in the back of the building. An interesting fact is that the building resembles of the family home of Nicolaus Copernicus.Less
