The Pigeon-House Tower is a medieval defensive building that is part of the former city walls of Toruń, preserved to this day in its original form. The object is not open to visitors, but it can be viewed from outside.
The name of the tower is not accidental, because at its top in the nineteenth century there were pigeon-houses for popular at that time post pigeons. Pigeons served the local Prussian garrison to send messages between the forts. The present appearance of the tower is the result of its adaptation for residential purposes, which was associated with the necessity of putting windows in to the walls, which formerly had only small shooting holes. To this day, however, one can admire the typical Gothic style of red brick construction, a facade from the side of the Vistula divided by four blends decorated with colorful Gothic ornamentation.Less
