The Baroque Granary, located on Piekary Street in Toruń, is considered the largest and the most most interesting baroque structure of this type in Poland. The characteristic construction of the building with many storeys and a gable roof has been diversified with a large number of densely situated windows.
The specific window frames made of mortar have a rectangular shape with a semicircle top and a small projection, thanks to which they resemble the grain bags connected at the top. The current windows are the result of the reconstruction, because originally the granary was equipped with rectangular openings on the upper floors and narrow arched windows on the ground floor. The red brick building has been finished with contrasting corners with a cog edge. The present building of the granary dates from the first half of the 17th century. Earlier, in his place there was a granary from the 14th century, and before it gothic bourgeois tenements. From the old buildings one can only see the remains of two entrance portals from Piekary Street.Less
