Swarzędz Apiculture Museum is a department of the National Museum of Agriculture and Agri-food Industry in Szreniawa. It consists of the unique on European scale collection of almost 250 various beehives which present the development of apiculture and bee-keeping throughout the ages. Visitors can also watch the exhibition dedicated to domesticated insects presented in the farm building situated next to the museum.
The facility was established in 1963 next to the Departments of Bee Deasises. First exhibits were beehives from the collection of Professor Ryszard Kostecki. The museum became a department of the museum in Szreniawa in 1996.The oldest exhibit in the museum is the wild beehive found in the Vistula which, according to scientists, dates back to the 15th century. There are also hives made of straw, hollowed in trunks, box, architectonic which resemble houses, and figural, sculpture-like. Part of them is still inhabited by bees.Less
