Park Gate
Local name: Brama Parkowa
The neo-classicist gate leading to the former residence of bishops is called today "Park Gate". It was built between 1770 and 1780 for Archbishop of Gniezno - Antoni Kazimierz Ostrowski.
The gate was designed by Efraim Szreger (Schroeger), Polish architect with German roots born in Toruń who had connections to the court of the last Polish king. Many royals passed through it, including King Stanislaus August Poniatowski. Thanks to Stanislaus August Poniatowski, Schroeger traveled to West Europe and when he came back, became the precursor of early-classicism in the Polish lands. The gate was built on a gentle arch plan. It has two semicircular wings with columnar portals and guardhouses. The presently renovated Park Gate is one of the most interesting tourist destinations in Skierniewice.Less
