The post-Camaldolese monastery is not only a jewel of Baroque architecture but also a retreat center providing services for those who seek tranquility and place for contemplation. The scenery from tv series "Czarne Chmury" (Black Clouds) waits for enthusiasts of historical movies.
The Camaldolese, one of the most strict monastic orders, was brought to Rytwiany in the first half of the 17th century. Monastics, who arrived from Kraków's Bielany, were brought here by Jan Magnus Tęczyński. The monastery operated for 200 years until the dissolution carried out by the Russian authorities. In order to prevent that, the Franciscans were brought here but, unfortunately, it didn't change its fate. It was brought back to life by the local diocese. The relaxation and contemplation center was established here at the beginning of the 21st century. Renovated halls of the Baroque hermitage are used by pilgrims and people seeking serenity. The monastery is opened to the public. It consists of the Baroque rectoral church, Camaldolese Gallery presenting souvenirs of monastics living here, Library, gardens, and the small museum of "Czarne Chmury".Less
