Orthodox Church of All the saints
Local name: Cerkiew prawosławna p.w. Wszystkich Świętych
The Orthodox church is a co-cathedral church of the diocese of Łódź. You can see here, among others a gilded linden tree iconostasis, brought all the way from St. Petersburg, as well as beautiful icons of Saints Cyril and Methodius. In 1976, the church was entered in the register of monuments.
The neo-Byzantine church on a Greek cross plan was erected in the years 1844–1847 according to the design of architects Gołoński and Marczewski. For the needs of the growing community, it was expanded in 1867 according to the design of the Russian architect Ivan Vasilyevich Sztrem. The expansion was financed by a Polish entrepreneur, Ignacy Markiewicz.
We owe the establishment of the Orthodox parish in Piotrków to a group of Greeks who came to Piotrków from distant Macedonia in the middle of the 18th century. King Stanisław August Poniatowski allowed them in 1778 to open the Orthodox chapel. All the saints.
