Old Town Square in Piotrków
Local name: Rynek Starego Miasta w Piotrkowie
The market square in Piotrków Trybunalski is part of the oldest, medieval part of the city. It is the focal point of the very well-preserved urban layout of the Old Town since the Middle Ages. The Market Square, along with the entire Old Town, is entered in the register of monuments as "Old Town District - Trybunalski Square".
The market square was established in the fourteenth century, although the settlement in Piotrków appeared even in the eighth century. It used to be a market square and, until the mid-19th century, an administrative center. To this day, you can also see the outline of the foundations of the demolished town hall.
The eclectic buildings around the square were built mostly in the 18th and 19th centuries, but they stand on medieval foundations. There you can find numerous plaques devoted to the characters and events related to Piotrków.
