Ducal Castle in Oleśnica

Local name: Zamek Książęcy w Oleśnicy

Oleśnicki Castle attracts attention with its beauty, which owes to the restaurant in 1965-1977. In the northern part of the castle there is the Archaeological Museum Branch in Oleśnica. The history of the castle dates back to the 13th century, and for the first time records of a wooden object appear in 1247. in reference to the seat of the Oleśnica castellan. Formerly the castle was located on a hill and surrounded by a moat.

In the castle tower you can admire the Gothic-Renaissance portal, with the 14th-century decor and the coat of arms of the Duchy of Olesnica. An interesting element of the complex is the round tower, whose wall thickness at the courtyard level exceeds 1m. Today, the seat of the Silesian Piast princes of Oleśnica is the place of farming for the Central School of Instructors of the ZHP.

A brick gothic structure appeared at the beginning of the 14th century and was composed of a residential building, a defensive tower and fortified walls. At the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the building was rebuilt into a Renaissance one, and in this form you can admire the castle today, after a careful restaurant, during which all details except the ceramic roof, replaced by copper sheets, were preserved.
