Water tower

Local name: Wieża ciśnień

The tower was built at the turn of the century. She worked continuously for almost 100 years, from 1907 to 2006, when it was renovated and a new water treatment plant was built. Originally, the coke oven furnace was the source of power for the pump sets. The power supply was introduced only after 1945.

Depending on the assumed function, the water tower was designed to provide constant water pressure in the water supply network or only to cover the temporary increase in demand for it. The water tank was located at the top of the tower, above the recipients. Water towers have been displaced by hydrophores. Currently, some of them are still used as a backup source of water, e.g. during firefighting or water supply network failure.
