Water tower

Local name: Wieża ciśnień

The water tower serves today as the headquarters of Waterdrop Museum. It consists of exhibits related to water and also the history of the city and region. There are old fire engines, demijohns, and bottles. Old fire-fighting devices can be seen on the square by the tower. Visitors can also admire everyday objects from several dozen years ago and the gallery of historical photographs of Ełk from the beginning of the 20th century.

The name of the museum relates to the former function of the tower. The facility belongs to the Association of German Minority "Mazury" in Ełk. The library with the collection of German books operates on one of the floors.

The monumental tower was built in 1895. It operated for 80 years until the modern waterwork system was established. As one of the tallest buildings in Ełk, it makes a great viewpoint from which the panorama of the city and area can be admired. It is worth to visit the place after sunset in order to see its night lighting.
