The Dark Cave is considered the largest chamber in terms of size in the Cracow-Częstochowa Upland. It is located in the Ojców National Park, 65 meters above the Prądnik Valley. You can visit it with a guide. Stalactites and stalagmites can be seen in the cave. There is an observation deck in front of the entrance.
The name of the Dark Cave comes from the darkness prevailing in it. There is no artificial lighting here. Visitors receive candles at the entrance. Traces of a Neanderthal have been found in the cave. Bones of a cave bear and wolverine were also found here. They were transferred to the Museum of Natural History in Ojców.
The cave is located above the Prądnik valley. From the terrace in front of the entrance, there is a wonderful view of the valley and the surrounding slopes with rocks. The cave consists of a chamber with a length of almost 90 meters and a corridor. The bottom is covered with silts applied for many years. You can see stalagmites with fanciful shapes. One of them resembles a lion. Tubular stalactites hang from the vault. Between them you can also see circular depressions created by water filling the cave in the past.
