Lake Czorsztyn is an artificial dam reservoir located between the Pieniny Spiskie Mountains and the Gorce Mountains. It was created in the second half of the twentieth century on the Dunajec river gorge in Niedzica. The lake is latitudinally situated and quite long and narrow. On its banks there are rentals of floating equipment. You can also take a cruise.
Although the construction of the dam in Niedzica caused very large protests in the eighties and early nineties, today Lake Czorsztyn is one of the main attractions of the Pieniny Mountains. There are two castles above its waters, the Dunajec castle in Niedzica and the ruins of the Polish border stronghold in Czorsztyn. Gondolas carrying tourists travel between them. The lake fits beautifully into the mountainous landscape of the area. From its banks you can admire the panorama of Pieniny, Gorce and Tatra Mountains. In good weather, the Beskid Żywiecki Mountains with the highest peak of the Beskids, Babia Góra, is also visible.Less
