Ruins of the Sobień Castle
Local name: Ruiny Zamku Sobień
Góra Sobień is a nature reserve with an area of over 5 ha, where you can admire the rich fauna of, among others rare species of flowers or insects and the ruins of a medieval castle. Visitors can see the remains of the walls in the residential part, the gate tower and go to the built in the second half. Of the twentieth century observation deck, which offers a panorama of the San Valley, as well as the higher parts of the Bieszczady Mountains.
The castle was built in the 13th century by King Casimir the Great. Then King Władysław Jagiełło transferred the estate to the magnate Kmita family. In the 16th century, the Kmita family left Sobień, which caused the castle to fall into a slow ruin.
Legends say that the ruins of the castle are haunted by the Black and White Lady. The Black Lady is Anna Kmita, who died during a fire during the siege of the castle. Whereas Biała Dama is Margarita, the unfaithful wife of Castellan Kmita, who as part of revenge was walled up by her betrayed husband in the castle's cellars.
