The Grodzka Gate is a relic of the former city fortifications, but also one of the first parts of them. Currently, theatre plays are shown in the hall over the passage.
Construction of this classicist building is a result of connecting actual gate with a foregate, and combining with adjacent tenement houses. The origin of the building is dated back to the middle of the 14th century, and since then, it had been a passage between the Old Town and the Jewish quarter for few hundred years. At this account, it deserved to be called the Jewish Gate. In 1785, the gate was rebuilt and adapted to residential and commercial functions. In the 19th century, the gate belonged to the private owner, later it was taken over by the High School of Fine Arts and the Theatre Studio of Lublin. At the present time, its owner is the "Grodzka Gate - NN Theatre" Centre.Less
