Karol Scheibler's Cotton Mill is the largest industrial building in Łódź from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It is situated in Księży Młyn. It was built in the neo-Gothic style, and the building refers to defensive architecture. This is emphasized by the towers located in the corners. As a result of the revitalization of the Scheibler's factory building complex in Łódź, Cotton Mill was transformed into residential buildings.
Karol Scheibler arrived to Łódź in the middle of the 19th century. In the 1870s, he began the construction of an industrial complex in Księży Młyn. Its largest building, as well as the largest factory facility in Łódź, became the Cotton Mill. It was completed in 1873. It is 207 meters long and has three floors. The building was built of red brick refering to the architecture of medieval castles. This is emphasized by corner towers that look like fortified towers.The Cotton Mill building had been used for industrial purposes until the 1980s. Then it has been falling into ruin for over 10 years. At the beginning of the 21st century, attempts were made to rescue the unique factory building complexes of Łódź. The cotton mill was renovated and the interior layout was changed - adapted for residential purposes.Less
