Łódź Palm House

Local name: Palmiarnia Łódzka

The Palm House in Łódź is a modern building made of glass and metal that stands in Źródliska Park. The collections of exotic plants located there come from the palmhouses and greenhouse of Łódź industrialists from the interwar period. The palm house was rebuilt in 2013 and currently is one of the most modern in Europe. An artificial pond and cave with volcanic tuff were built there. Between the stands of the plants, alleys and benches for resting were located.

The Palm House in Łódź was established in 1955. The cafeteria building at Źródliska Park was transformed to it. Plants, kept since World War II, have come there from hothouses of industrialists of Łódź. At the beginning of the 21st century, the building was renovated. There is a metal and glass construction with special panes which, through heat accumulation, provide the appropriate conditions inside.

There are approximately 4,500 plants in the Palm House of over 1000 species and varieties. This is a plentiful collection which include palm trees, citrus trees, cycads, cacti, araucarias, orchids, and many more. Since 2006, the Didactic Garden has been functioning near the Palm House, where, among others, redwoods, gingkos, rhododendrons, and azaleas grow.
