West Beach

Local name: Plaża Zachodnia

What brings enthusiasts of swimming and sunbathing to Łeba is very fine, bright and soft sand of the beach. After World War I, Łeba was a favorite holiday resort for German bohemianism community. It was especially favored by painters. Since recently, a nudist beach was established here.

The Former Health House (Kurhaus), situated on a dune, towers over the beach. It was built from 1906 to 1907 by Baron Herbert von Massow for 150 thousand Deutsche Marks. The budget of Łeba was then 65 thousand Deutsche Marks. It was visited by artists, sportsmen, and politicians. The most famous was Maks Schmeling, legendary German boxer who managed to beat Joe Louis himself.

It is worth to visit Słowiński National Park - the largest in Europe area with moving dunes. They stretch between the Baltic Sea and the lake of Łebsko. Dunes move to the east up to 10 meters per year. The tallest dunes have 40 m.
