Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Local name: Kościół Wniebowzięcia NMP

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the only registered monument in Łeba, and at the same time the oldest building in the city. Due to its modest appearance it is called "fishing". Inside the temple hangs a painting by the German expressionist painter Max Pechstein, depicting the Sea Madonna.

The Church of the Assumption was erected at the end of the 17th century on the site of the previous building destroyed by lightning. Its construction and equipment were funded by local merchants. Interestingly, the distribution of places in the church was dependent on the property - specific places had to be purchased earlier. Initially, the temple belonged to Protestants. It fell into the hands of Catholics after World War II.

For several decades, the church has been under the care of religious - Oblates.
