Exhibition of Orthodox Art
Local name: Ekspozycja Sztuki Cerkiewnej
The Museum of Orthodox Art, located in the specially adapted premises of the former stable houses, includes the largest collection of Ukrainian sacred art in Poland. Among the exhibits can be admired over 1000 icons, the oldest of which dates back to the 15th century. There are also arts and crafts products and a 300-volume collection of old Cyrillic prints, whose pride is the 16th-century Apostle from the Lvov Fedorov printing house.
After the expulsion of the Ukrainian population from south-eastern Poland in 1945 and 1947, the remains of priceless religious art were destroyed. The mission, set up in 1960 in the Łańcut Voivodship Mobile Storage Estate, was later transformed into the Art Department of the Castle Museum, to save them from extinction.
The collection is surrounded by the care of conservators. Some elements of the Orthodox churches returned to the temples to continue worship.
