The old Cistercian Abbey in Ląd is considered one of the most important monastery complexes in Greater Poland. The Gothic monastery buildings are attached to the monumental Baroque church with a dome. The most valuable treasures of the place are medieval polychromies of the oratory. The object is included in the Cistercian Track and was entered in the register of objects of cultural heritage.
Cistercians arrived in Ląd in the first half of the 12th century. Nothing remained of the then church and monastery. Currently, the oldest part of the complex is the monastic building from the 14th century. The Gothic oratory consists of one of the most valuable polychromies depicting knight, heraldic, and eschatological themes in Poland.The church was built in the second half of the 17th century in the place of the previous building. It's a monumental basilica with an elongated structure. Its main part is topped by the 38-meter dome. The facade has two towers and is topped by the decorated topping and two Baroque tented roofs.The interior's decor comes from the beginning of the 18th century. There are late-Baroque altars and wall paintings by Adam Swach. They depict Biblical scenes and scenes related to the history of Cistercians.
