Church of St. Bartholomew

Local name: Kościół św. Bartłomieja

The Church of St. Bartholomew is the oldest church in Konin. Its gorgeous interior consists of many valuable monuments such as, among others, the Gothic figure of Madonna, the monstrance from the 15th-16th century, and also the epitaph of Mikołaj Grochowski from 1570.

The oldest part of the Gothic basilica - the sacristy - comes from the 14th century. Three brick naves and chapels were built in the 15th century. Other parts were added in the next centuries. The whole construction is covered with a gabled roof. The semicircular flanking tower with embrasures and the Romanesque stone pole, which marks halfway between Kalisz and Kruszwica, can be found next to the church.

The basilica's naves are Gothic while the chapel is Renessaince. Light goes inside through stained glasses from the beginning of the 20th century. The main altar was built in neo-Gothic style. Side altars and altars in chapels are Baroque and Rococo. There is also the monumental Rococo cruccifix, chalices from the 16th and 17th centuries, tombstones, and coffin portraits.
