The Basilica of Our Lady of Licheń at the Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows, Queen of Poland is the largest church in Poland. It was built in the years of 1994-2004 in Licheń Stary in commemoration of revelations from the 19th century. The church impresses with its monumentality. The interior consists of the largest in the country and 13th in the world pipe organ.
The church was built on the cross plan and consists of five naves. The dome with a diameter of almost 25m was constructed in the center. The place also has the belfry where the almost 15-ton bell Maryja Bogurodzica and the 141.5-meter tower with two observation decks are located. The smaller belfry with three bells was also built near the church.The interior of the basilica is filled with gold colors and resembles waving gold fields of cereal. 33 steps of stairs, which symbolize years of the life of Christ on Earth, lead to the church. The church consists of 365 windows which symbolize the number of days in the year, 52 doorway symbolizing the number of weeks, and 12 columns symbolizing 12 apostles.Less
