Pilsudski Mound in Kraków was mounded on the top of Sowiniec in Wolski Forest in the years between 1934 and 1937. It is the tallest mound in Kraków. Its height amounts to 35 m while a diameter of the base is 111 m. A plate with "Krzyż Legionowy" (decoration) is on the top. The mound was entered in the register of objects of cultural heritage.
Mounding started on the 20th anniversary of marching out of the First Cadre Company from Oleandry Street. It has dirt from all battlegrounds where Polish people fought during World War I. It also consists of the dirt from the grave of the Marchal Piłsudski's mother. In the 1950s, the slopes of the mound were destroyed by a tank by order of the then authority. The memorial boulder was also removed from the top. Today, the mound is administered by the committee. The panorama of the city including Wawel, Błonia Park, and St. Mary's Church can be admired from here. The Tatra Mountains are also visible during good weather.Less
