Church of St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist

Local name: Kościół św. Jana Chrzciciela i Jana Ewangelisty

The small and monumental Church of St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist is one of the oldest churches in Kraków. Traces of the first church from this place come from the 12th century. Its dominating style is Baroque. Apart from votive offerings such as the Turkish saber from the 17th century and two pairs of iron shackles with chains from the 18th century, the church also consists of the pipe organs from the turn of the 18th century, and gorgeous Baroque matroneum.

The attention of churchgoers and visitors is brought by the 16th-century painting of St. John's Mother of God at the main altar. It is commonly known as Mother of God of Slavers' Ransom, or Mother of Freedom. It is said that the prisoner from Prussia was freed because of her.

Since 1726, the church is administered by Presentation Sisters. The side chapel, built in the place of the former sacristy, contains the remains of church's founder - Zofia Czeska.
