Hunting Lodge

Local name: Domek Myśliwski

The refuge is located at the height of 1158m above the sea level, within the Karkonosze National Park, near the blue trail that starts in Karpacz, goes through Polana and ends on Śnieżka. The Hunting House was built in 1924 for count von Schaffgotsch, owner of Karpacz. After World War II it served as a gamekeeper's house, refuge, and also a research station. Currently, it's the information and tourist center of the Karkonosze National Park.

The Hunting House lets to watch nature movies dedicated to Karkonosze, listen to the lectures, take part in the educational lessons, and also buy maps and guidebooks. The center's offer includes thematic trips in the area (practical use of maps, recognizing animal tracks), and also presentations 'Karkonosze as the National Park' and 'Lab assistants in the Karkonosze Park' (past and present day of the park). The offer can be used only through the phone contact.

In the beginning, as the name suggests, the Hunting House served as a base for participants in a hunt. The most popular trophies that got there were antlers of deer which grazed near the house. The house was then named St. Leonard am Kleine Teich (Saint Leonard by Small Pond). In the second half of the 20th century, the painting of the patron of cattle, successful birth, captives, prisoners and hunters was still placed above the entrance door.
