Gerhart Hauptmann House

Local name: Dom Gerharta Hauptmanna

Located in the writer's house, the museum consists of five halls presenting works by one of the most prominent German creators of literature. The facility displays the author's souvenirs, documents, photographies, equipment, and first editions of his works. The exhibition is complemented by the multimedia presentation. There are also exhibits dedicated to the culture and literature of Silesia. The museum organizes nationwide symposiums, conferences, and other cultural and educational events.

The house of Gerhart Hauptmann who lived between 1862 and 1946 is a small, castle-like impressive villa built at the beginning of the 20th century. It's here, where the German writer and Nobel Prize winner spent his last years of life. After his death, the Center of Children Holidays, which operated until 1997, was established here. In 2005, after many years of efforts, the City Museum Gerhart Hauptmann House was officially opened.
