The Museum of Blacksmithing and Locksmiths in Hajnówka is a private institution founded in 2003 by Stanisław Mierzwiński. Locals call him "the last of the Hajnowian blacksmiths family". The initiative to create this place was the desire to pass on knowledge, history and traditions regarding the work of a rural blacksmith.
The museum collections, which are constantly enriched with new exhibits, are mainly gifts from grandparents and great-grandparents. Some of them are on loan from the Agricultural Museum in Ciechanowiec. The exhibits presented at the facility are various tools and blacksmith's and locksmith's products, agricultural machines, devices for smelting iron from bog ores, prehistoric slags and furnace models. Noteworthy is the rich collection of horse horseshoes for different seasons and horse shoes, which were put on animals for walking on swampy terrain. In the yard you can admire a miniature model of an ancient metallurgical furnace, so-called "Dymiarki."
An interesting attraction is the still working smithy located in the back of the museum. The owner organizes blacksmith shows here. Those willing can also try their hand at forging hot iron. In addition to shows and lessons, archeological picnics are also organized on the premises.
