Nature and Forest Museum
Local name: Muzeum Przyrodniczo-Leśne
The Bialowieza Forest and Nature Museum is the oldest museum in Polish national parks and the oldest of its kind in the Podlaskie Voivodship. Its history dates back to the interwar period. Exhibitions in the facility are shown in a very modern way. We will not find here boring museums in old showcases, but beautiful mock-ups, realistic dioramas, and a scenic light and interesting soundtrack.
Entering the exhibition halls visitors can feel like in the true wilderness. This impression was achieved through the unevenly shaped floor, the dim lights, the day and night effects, the sounds of the forest. The singing of birds, the winds of the wind, the bisoning of the bison, and the howls of wolves create an unforgettable atmosphere.
The museum presents cultural, botanical and zoological exhibits. Here you can see scenes from animal life, such as hunting wolves on deer. Watching the exhibitions we will get to know the most characteristic forest communities: the oak, the ols, the horn, the pine forest. Various phenomena and ecological processes occurring in the Białowieża Primeval Forest, such as the decomposition stages of wood, are also presented here. The cultural part shows the activities of people in the forest: haymaking, barking, wood processing. For realism, all models are surrounded by multi-format photographs.
On two exhibition levels of 1500 m2, there are computers equipped with touch screens. They provide quick and easy access to additional information and trivia. After visiting the museum, it is worth visiting the lookout tower, which has a beautiful view of the forest.
