PTTK Regional Museum I. Łukasiewicz in Gorlice documents the history of Gorlice and their surroundings. The collections gathered here relate primarily to the history of the city and oil production in this region, World War I, with particular emphasis on the Gorlice operation, the ethnography of the Lemkos and Foothills, and the activities of Bohdan Ihor Antonycz.
The collection of the Regional Museum focuses on the most important issues related to the history and culture of the region. You can see an exhibition showing the history of Gorlice from the 16th to the 19th century. Further fate of the city was presented at the exhibition on the beginnings of the oil industry and the activities of Ignacy Łukasiewicz. The interior of a 19th-century pharmacy was restored here, in which the inventor of the kerosene lamp worked together with devices for the distillation of crude oil.
The exhibition that started the history of the Regional Museum concerns World War I and the Gorlice operation, as a result of which over 80% of Gorlice's buildings were destroyed. You can see a mock-up showing the course of the fight, military items, uniforms and personal memorabilia of soldiers. The former inhabitants of the region are reminded of an ethnographic exhibition presenting costumes, tools, handicrafts of the Lemkos and Pogórzans.
