Aleksander Świętochowski House "Krzewnia"

Local name: Dom Aleksandra Świętochowskiego "Krzewnia"

Krzewnia is the second building, next to Aleksandra Bąkowska's Manor, that is part of the Museum of Positivism in Gołotczyzna. The villa, situated in a picturesque park, was for nearly 30 years the home and studio of Aleksander Świętochowski (1849-1938) - a positivist, writer, philosopher and social activist.

Inside, there is a study, a library and a dining room with complete, original equipment. The exhibition also includes prints documenting Świętochowski's achievements, which have survived thanks to the efforts of his wife, Maria Grossmanowa-Świętochowska. The livestock buildings have a collection of agricultural machinery and tools from the early Twentieth century

Świętochowski settled in 1913 in Gołotczyzna at the invitation of Countess Aleksandra Bąkowska, with whom he shared his social passion and affection. Together, they founded a school for peasant girls in 1909, and an agricultural school for boys in 1912. Świętochowski remained in Gołotczyzna until his death - he rests in a cemetery in nearby Sońsk.
