Cathedral's observation deck
Local name: Taras widokowy katedry
The observation deck is located at the top of the southern tower of the Gniezno Cathedral. Tourists who want to get here have to climb 239 steps. At the top of the tower, you pass the mechanism of the old tower clock. The terrace itself is located at a height of about 55 m above the Lech Hill, where the Cathedral rises. From here you can admire the vast panorama of the city, and on clear days you can even see the chimney of the heat and power plant in Karolina near Poznań.
The history of the Cathedral of Gniezno itself dates back over a thousand years, to the reign of Mieszko I. After the establishment of the state, it was the most important temple in the country, the place of the coronation of Polish kings. The entrance to the cathedral is decorated with the famous Gniezno Door from the 12th century, decorated with intricate bas-reliefs depicting scenes from the life of St. Wojciech.
