Church of St. Francis

Local name: Kościół św. Franciszka

Church of Sts. Francis is a monastery church in the Old Town of Głogówek. Built in the 17th century, the Baroque chapel houses the Loretto Lodge. The church is dominated by a massive, quadrangular tower with a baroque helmet. Inside the original, 17th century equipment has been preserved.

The history of the church dates back to the 13th century when the Franciscans came to Głogówek. However, today's appearance of the temple is a result of great reconstruction, which was carried out in the 17th century owner of the city of Jerzy III Oppersdorff. The church built by him is a one-nave building, with a transept of irregular arms length. In the north is the Loretto Lodge, which was previously a separate building. The church is adjacent to the tower on a square plan, while the eastern part of the building is crowned by an octagonal sign.

The inside of the temple is covered with vaulted ceilings. The polychromes that cover them come from the twentieth century. XVIIth century are altars, paintings and elements of moving equipment. A musician's lodge is located above the music choir, which houses the Oppersdrff family.
