Great Mill

Local name: Wielki Młyn

Gdansk Grand Mill was functioning as a shopping center until 2016 - later it was transferred to the Amber Museum in Gdansk and is now a branch of the Museum. This magnificent fourteenth-century design impresses both inside and out. Right next to the Grand Mill there is a modern fountain, which adds charm to the historic building.

The water mill called today the Great Mill was built in 1350 on the initiative of the Crusaders. It was initially propelled by 18 water wheels, and in later years it was modernized, gaining much more modern turbine propulsion, based on water turbines.

The Great Mill was destroyed in its original form during World War II. After its restoration and renovation, it abandoned its basic function and began to organize performances in the building, disco, and then completely adapt it as a shopping center.
