The walls and towers in Chojnice are now functioning as museums. The Człuchowska Gate houses 5 exhibition floors of the Historical-Ethnographic Museum. The Museum also includes the towers: Wronia, Szewska with a museum library and a reading room, Kurza Stopa, which houses the Gallery of Contemporary Art of Poland and the Szewski House serving as a magazine for the museum.
Chojnice fortification, is a stone brick ring built by the Teutonic Knights in the 14th century around Chojnice. Of the originally 22 towers and 3 gates, we can now admire only a few bastions and the only preserved gate - Człuchowska. This gate served as a prison from the 17th century and was later converted into a belfry.
Walls of fortification in times of glory measured 9 m in height and up to 2.5 m in thickness. Each gate was equipped with a drawbridge. Interestingly, the bastions were built in different shapes and heights. Others are also crowned on them. The construction of a double moat and numerous lakes was supposed to create an unstoppable fortress from the town. Unfortunately, the buildings were successively dismantled over the centuries. The material was used to expand the city.
