St. Mary's Church in Chojna is a former town hall and one of the largest Gothic churches in Poland. Its work is still underway, but parts of the site are made available to visitors. One such attraction is the tower of the church, which has a viewing terrace. In addition, the temple organizes concerts, exhibitions and ecumenical services.
The building dates from the 13th to the 15th century. In 1843, a construction disaster occurred, during which part of the tower collapsed. Her surviving structure was demolished and no longer rebuilt. After sixteen years, it was decided to build a new neo-gothic tower. In 1945, as a result of the fire, the temple was severely destroyed. Long remained in a state of complete ruin. It was not until the end of the last century that a renovation was made, which continues today.
In the church, despite numerous turmoil, some original elements have survived. The baptismal font and some frescoes were saved. In the undergrowth, in the southern chapels and partly in the aisles, the original ceramic floor survived. In the northern chapels and in the northern aisle, a brick floor has been preserved.
