Blacksmith's Tower and city walls

Local name: Baszta Kowalska i mury obronne

Biecz, like other medieval cities, has been equipped with defensive walls and towers. Although over the years, defense systems have changed, and with them the development of the city, in Biecz there are still remains of defensive walls and three of the seventeen formerly existing towers.

After the 1200 m long city wall in Biecz, nowadays only a small part has remained. It is located near the parish church of Biecz, and some remains are also in the vicinity of the Holy Spirit Hospital.

The towers that have survived to our times are the Smith Tower (Baszta Kowalska), the Council Tower (Baszta Radziecka, meaning the House with Baszta) and the Butcher Tower (Baszta Rzeźnicka, which also functions as a belfry). In the Smith Tower, restored in the 1980s, there is a museum exhibition, including a gallery of paintings and items related to the Biecz scouting.
