The wooden hunting palace is made of geometrical modules and relates to the hunting castles of German kings. Nowadays, the hotel and House of Creative Work are located there. The palace organizes concerts and cultural events. The Radziwiłł Family Palace in Antonin is one of the most unconventional examples of residential architecture in Greater Poland.
The palace was built in 1822-1824 on the command of Antoni Radziwiłł. The designer was Karol Fryderyk Schinkel, one of the most talented classicism architects in Prussia who created wooden hunting castle based on the similar constructions owned by German kings. Fryderyk Chopin visited Antonin twice, in 1827 and 1829. During World War II, the palace belonged to Adolf Hitler. Thanks to Jerzy Waldorf, it was renovated in the second half of the 20th century and used as a location for House of Creative Work. The hotel also functions there. The palace in Antonin is built on the Greek cross plan. Its central part is octagonal hall decorated with hunting trophies and covered with the tent-like roof. The slightly lower rectangular wings with the residential room are adjoined to the hall. The main part of it is the octagonal chimney. The galleries which lead to the residential areas are located around the hall. Because of the Chopin's visits in Antonin, concerts of his music and autumn festival 'Chopin in autumn colors' are organized there.Less
