Forum Synagoga
Local name: Forum Synagoga
The synagogue in Ostrów Wielkopolski is the only fully preserved Moorish synagogue in Poland. It was built at the end of the 19th century and belonged to the local Jewish community until World War II. After the renovation, it is not only a wonderful monument but also a very active cultural center.
The synagogue was built in 1860 in the place of the previous wooden church. It is an example of Moorish style which was popular in the second half of the 19th century. Its facade is divided into the main structure decorated with pilasters, and octagonal towers covered with tented roofs at the sides. It is worth to take a look at tall, semicircular windows. The interior consists of the former prayer room, galleries, and smaller agricultural rooms. The synagogue was finally passed to the city in 2010. It was changed into cultural center Forum Synagoga. The facade was renovated while the interior was adapted for concerts and performances. It is a very active facility which organizes numerous cultural events, exhibitions, and meetings.Less
