Hardangervidda is the largest plateau in Europe, its area covers about 10,000 m². Over a third of this area is the area of the national park. Its main inhabitants are wild reindeers, snowy owls and arctic foxes. In the western part of the park you can admire the waterfalls and glaciers.
Walking and cross-country trails marked out by the Norwegian Tourist Association (DNT) lead through the park. You can also explore the area by bike or on horseback. Many shelters and tourist huts have been built on this vast plateau where you can spend the night.
The center of Hardangervidda National Park is located in the small town of Eidfjord. You can see materials about the nature and history of the park, information is provided in the form of documentaries, photos and multimedia presentations.
