Munch Museum

Local name: Munch-museet

The Munch Museum (Munch-museet) in Oslo gathered the works of one of the greatest painters of Norwegian origin. There are over 1,100 paintings, as well as graphics, drawings and sculptures. The exhibition is complemented by the artist's personal belongings, which he passed on to the city in his will. You can admire paintings such as "Scream", "Vampire", "Kiss" and "Self-portrait with a bottle of wine".

The museum displays a short film about the life and work of Munch. Temporary exhibitions, concerts and theater performances are organized here. The building also has a library, a cafe and a gift shop.

The museum was founded in 1963, on the 100th anniversary of Munch's birth. Looting took place in 2004 - the two most important works were stolen: "Scream" and "Madonna", they were successfully recovered two years later. After this event, the security of valuable images has been significantly strengthened.
